Home learning - Friday 5th March

The last day of home schooling!!

Make your own Supertato - We have loved seeing all of your home made Supertatos. We are going to print these and put them on display in the unit to show the amazing work you’ve been doing at home. If you haven’t yet made your supertato or you haven’t sent us a picture, do it before Monday so we can add it to our display.

Phonics – Watch the RWI videos. Mrs Denton will send you a link to these on the App in the morning.

Next, complete the phonics page in your workbook. Try to do this all by yourself.

Look at the picture. Say the word – “leg”. Now press each sound onto your Fred Fingers “l”  “e”   “g”. Now write those sounds in your book. If you aren’t sure what letter comes next, say the word again and press the sounds onto your fingers. This will remind you what letter you need to write next.

Maths – This is the link for the maths this week

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/building-9-10-week-1/

Today it’s session 5 – Numbers to 10 Bingo.

Watch Miss Cooper’s video. Help Miss Cooper, elephant and turtle play Bingo. This will help you with today’s activity.

Now it’s your turn to play Bingo.

Carefully take the Bingo boards out of the booklet. Ask a grown up or a brother or sister to play with you. Each player needs a board. Cut out the colourful Bingo cards and put them face down in the middle. Turn 1 card over. What number is represented on the card? If you have the number on your board, put a counter on it. Turn another card over and do the same. The first one to cover all their numbers is the winner!

If you don’t have counters, don’t worry, you could use money (coins) or pasta or cereal.

I’ve added a link to a Numberblocks episode that fits with today’s learning.

Story – Today is our final Supertato story.

Any questions, just email us.

Make your own Supertato and send us a photograph. You can use the sheet in your workbook to help you. This is my Supertato!

Home learning - Thursday 4th March

Don’t forget our Live session today! It’s the last one.

As it’s World Book Day children can wear their pyjamas to the live today and show us their favourite book. We’ll be wearing our pyjamas and so will the children and staff at school.

Today's World Book Day Task - post a photograph on our Facebook group page of you in your pyjamas holding your favourite book! Or send it to us via email.

Don’t forget to make a Supertato this week and send us a photograph. We’d love to make a display of the Supertato photos when we get back to school. There’s a sheet in the back of your workbook you can use for this task.

Phonics – Watch the RWI videos. Mrs Denton will send you a link to these on the App in the morning.

Next, watch Mrs Denton’s video to find out what you need to write in your booklet today. Don’t forget to make your letters as neat as possible.

Maths – In the session today Miss Cooper talks about the book ‘Ten Black Dots’ by Donald Crews. You’ll need to watch the video of this book FIRST for the session to make sense. I’ll add a link for it on here.

Once you’ve watched the Ten Black Dots story, you are ready to watch Miss Coopers video.

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/building-9-10-week-1/

Today it’s session 4 – Composition of 9 and 10.

Watch Miss Cooper’s video and join in with her activities. Watch how she shares the strawberries in different ways.

Next complete the linked activity in your workbook. Cut out the ten black dots carefully. Then, draw a picture adding the dots. They could be ten black dots on a ladybird or the middle of ten flowers. I'll add some pictures to give you some inspiration!

I’ve added a link to a Numberblocks episode that fits with today’s learning.

Story – Today we have another Supertato story.

Today it’s session 3 – Ordering Numerals to 10.

Watch Miss Cooper’s video and join in with her activities. Help Miss Cooper, Fox and Frog put the numbers in the right order. Next, see if you can see what the cheeky kangaroo has changed in the number line.

It’s time to complete the linked activity in your workbook. Cut out the number cards carefully and put them in the right order from 1 to 10. This is a really important skill. If you can’t do it straight away keep practising as much as you can over the next few days and weeks until you can order them easily.

Once you’ve done this, close your eyes and ask a grown up, or older brother or sister, to change something in the number line. They could remove a number or swap 2 numbers. Watch my video to see how to make this game easier or harder.

I’ve added a link to a Numberblocks episode that links to today's maths.

Now complete the linked activity in your workbook. Cut out the cards carefully to practise your cutting skills. Look at each card. Does it show 9 or 10? Sort the cards into 2 piles.

Try to make your own cards showing 9 and 10

I’ve added a link to a Numberblocks episode all about the number 10.

The last week of home learning! Monday 1st March

Don’t forget to collect your last workbook from school today.

Maths – We have a new link for the maths this week

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/building-9-10-week-1/

This week we are focusing on the numbers 9 and 10 including what pairs of numbers add up to make 9 and 10.

Today it’s session 1 – Representing and sorting 9 and 10.

Watch Miss Cooper’s video and join in with her activities. Spot the different ways of showing 9 and 10.

Now complete the linked activity. You need to show 9 and 10 in different ways. Perhaps you could find 9 crayons, then 10 crayons. Could you draw a 10 frame. Put 9 sweets in it. How many squares are empty? Now put 10 sweets in your ten frame. How is it different? How many more sweets did you need to add to make it show 10? Have a look at the ways I made 9 and 10.

Have a hunt around your house or on a walk with your grown up. Can you find the number 9 and the number 10. They could be in a book, on a toy or on a door.

I’ve added a link to a Numberblocks episode all about the number 9.

Phonics – Watch the RWI videos. Mrs Denton will send you a link to these on the App in the morning.

Next complete the phonics sheet in your workbook. Look at each word in turn. What letters can you see? Say the letter sounds in turn. Blend them together to read the word. Draw a line to the picture showing that word.

Story – This week it is World Book Day on Thursday. The story we have chosen to focus on is Supertato. Our story today is Supertato!

There are some activities in the back of your workbook. Have a go at making your own Supertato. Send us a Photograph. We'd love to make a display at school of all of your home made Supertatos!

Today’s home learning- Friday 26th February

Phonics – Watch the RWI videos. Mrs Denton will send you a link to these on the App in the morning.

Next complete the phonics sheet in your workbook. Try to do this by yourself. Look at each picture in turn. Say the word. Then say the word and press each sound carefully onto your Fred Fingers. Now write the sounds you heard.

Maths – This is the link for the maths this week

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/growing-6-7-8-week-3/

Today it’s session 5 – Measuring Time

Watch Miss Cooper’s video and join in with her activities.

Next, complete the linked activity. You need to see how many of something you can do in a minute. You could count how many times you can jump in a minute, write your name, skip, catch a ball or anything else. Record what you do in your workbook. I had a go at this, so watch my video to see how I got on.

I’ve added a link to Mr Maker. He makes amazing things in just 1 minute. Watch him make a dog card with flappy ears.

Extras – Don’t forget the lovely Numberblocks colouring sheets at the back of your workbook. Cut them out, colour them and then practise ordering the numbers.

Today it’s session 4 – Measuring Height

Watch Miss Cooper’s video. Watch her sunflower grow and help her to count how many bricks tall it is.

Now complete the linked activity. You’re going to plant something just like Jasper did. You should have got a seed with your workbook this week. Plant the seed in the container, with some soil or compost. Give it a little water. Over the next few week, look after your plant as it starts to grow. Watch as it gets taller and taller. Measure your sunflower every week using bricks.

I’ve added a link for an episode of Topsy and Tim planting sunflower seeds.

Green Face Certificates for all the lovely work we've seen so far this week

Today’s home learning- Wednesday 24th February

Phonics – Watch the RWI videos. Mrs Denton will send you a link to these on the App in the morning.

Then your child may want a break.

Next look at the phonics activity in your workbook. Watch Mrs Denton’s video to help you complete the sheet about the letter n.

Maths Before you watch Miss Cooper’s video you need to know the story of Jasper’s Beanstalk. So watch the video of me reading the story first. Then you’ll be able to help Miss Cooper to order the events from the story.

After watching the story, click on the link below

Today do session 3 – Days of the Week

Watch Miss Cooper’s video and help her order the pictures from the story. What did Jasper do each day?

In your workbook, cut out the days of the week and have a go at putting them in the right order. Can you remember the days of the week song we sing at school? Mrs Denton has sung it for you. Listen to that to help you get the order right.

Next you could draw something you do on different days. You might want to think about things you do when we aren’t in lockdown. What day do you wear PE clothes to school? You could draw a picture of you in your PE clothes. Do you do a club after school one day? Do you eat pizza on a Friday or pasta on a Tuesday? What do you do on Saturdays and Sundays?

Story - Today’s story is read by Mrs Hough.

Today do session 2 – Comparing length – Longer or Shorter.

Watch Miss Cooper’s video and join in with her activities. Today we are learning to use the words ‘longer’ and ‘shorter’. It is important that children try to use these words correctly.

Once you’ve watched the video, have a look at the linked activity. Don’t worry if you don’t have playdough or the ingredients to make it, children can order anything by length. I’ve had a go at this activity so you can watch my video to help.

Again, if your child’s first language isn’t English, you might want to do this activity in your home language first to ensure they understand the concepts. Then add the English words ‘longer’ and ‘shorter’.

There is a nice Twirlywoos episode that links to today’s maths. I’ll add the link. The Twirlywoos are making bread dough longer and longer.

Today’s home learning- Monday 22nd February

We hope you had a lovely break!

Your workbooks are ready to be collected from school today. Mrs Hough has been a star and organised for each of you to get a sunflower seed and a cup to plant it in. Keep this safe because you’ll need it for the maths session on Thursday.

You might want to do maths first today as it’s all practical and you don’t need the workbook for it. Then you can do the phonics work once you’ve collected the workbook from school.

Maths – Click on the link below

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/growing-6-7-8-week-3/

Today do session 1 – Comparing Height – Taller or Shorter.

Watch Miss Cooper’s video and join in with her activities. We are learning to use the words ‘taller’ and ‘shorter’, ‘more’ and ‘fewer’. It is important that children try to use these words correctly.

Once you’ve watched the video, have a look at the linked activity. Today it’s a nice activity - building towers of different heights. I’ve had a go at this activity so you can watch my video to help.

You need something you can build a tower with like Lego, Duplo, wooden bricks or something else. You also need a dice, or use the free online dice. I’ll add a link to that. Roll the dice. Build a tower with that many bricks. Then build a tower that it taller and a tower that is shorter. Try to use the words taller, shorter, more and fewer.

If your child’s first language isn’t English, you might want to do this activity in your home language first to ensure they understand the concepts. Then add the English words ‘taller’, ‘shorter’, ‘more’ and ‘fewer’ afterwards.

There is a nice Twirlywoos episode that links to today’s maths. I’ll add the links below. I used to love watching Twirlywoos with my children.

Phonics – Watch the RWI videos. Mrs Denton will send you a link to these on the App in the morning.

Then your child may want a break.

Next look at the phonics activity in your workbook. Today’s activity is reading the words and matching them to the picture. Make sure the children read the words themselves. Look at each letter carefully. Say the sound each letter makes, then put it together to read the word.

Story - Today’s story is read by Mrs Denton.

Watch Miss Cooper’s Video. See who wins the track race, crab or turtle.

Once you’ve watched Miss Cooper’s video, have a go at the track game with someone in your family. I had a go with Mr Crocodile. I think we cheated though because we didn’t roll the exact number to land on 12! Ooops! Play whichever version you want to play! You can play as many times as you want. Good luck!

There is a Numberblocks episode linked to today’s maths. I’ll add the links below.

It's Chinese New Year Today. The children at school will be watching a few CBeebies clips to learn more about Chinese New Year. I'll pop the links below for you.

Once you’ve finished all of that, it’s half term!

We hope you have a nice week and manage to spend some time relaxing. Have a break from school work. You’ve all worked really hard and we are so proud of every one of you. I’m looking forward to not getting out of bed so early and my children are looking forward to baking, watching movies and spending as long as possible in their onesies!

Love from Mrs Bradley, Mrs Denton and Mrs Hough xxx

Today it’s session 4 – Combing 2 groups

Watch Miss Cooper’s Video. Join in. What number is she showing you on the ten frame? How many sea creatures are there altogether? Watch how she uses the ten frame for adding the 2 groups together.

Once you’ve watched Miss Cooper’s video, look at the dominoes in your workbook. Cut them out carefully. Now you need to pick a domino. How many spots are on each side of the domino? How many spots are there altogether? You might want to draw a ten frame and use objects for this activity. That will really help you to understand the adding.

I had a go at this activity. Watch my video to see how I did it.

Then I had a go at playing dominoes with my friend Mr Crocodile. Watch my video to see who won. Why don’t you have a game with someone in your family or with a toy. Then you can stick the dominoes on the track in your workbook.

Once you’ve watched Miss Cooper’s video, look at the picture in your book. Can you find 4 flowers? Point to them. Now find 4 more flowers. How many flowers are there altogether? 4 + 4. You could use a ten frame to help you or your fingers. Repeat with the frogs and birds. How many in each group? How many altogether?

Next, draw your own picture. You might have 2 pink unicorns and 2 purple unicorns. You might have 3 green dinosaurs and 1 brown dinosaur. If you’re feeling really clever you could even write the sums. 2 + 2 = 4.   3 + 1 = 4

Today it’s session 2 which is called 'Making pairs'.

Watch Miss Cooper’s Video to learn all about pairs and making pairs.

Once you’ve watched Miss Cooper’s video, you need to go for a walk, or look around your garden for some natural objects like sticks, leaves or stones. Put them into pairs. How many pairs did you find? Do you have any left? Draw the pairs in your workbook. I’m going to have a go at this tomorrow. I’ll post a video of what I find.

Next, watch Mrs Denton’s video. See if you can find something in your house beginning with each letter. Don't forget to pause the video when you're hunting!

As you probably haven’t been able to collect your workbook yet, you might want to watch the maths video next and the linked Numberblocks episode. Then you can complete the activities in your workbook once you’ve collected it.

This week in your workbook we've included a page for you to record what you've been reading at home. There are lots of books on the Oxford Owl website, to help you practise your reading. I’ll pop the link on here and remind you of the username and password in this morning’s App message.

Phonics workbook activity – Have a look at the first word. Look at the letters in the word. Say each letter in turn. “t”    “i”    “n”. Now say them together more quickly “t” “i” “n”. Can you hear what the word says? Which picture shows that word? Draw a line to it. Repeat with the next word. Make sure you blend it yourself. Don’t get your grown up to read it for you. You won’t learn to read if you do. You’re grown up could help you with a letter if you get stuck, but have a go yourself first.

Today it's session 1 - Matching 6,7 and 8

Watch Miss Cooper’s Video. What number is she showing on the ten frames? Now watch her play the ladybird game. Are the ladybirds showing the same number? This is tricky and you will need to look carefully at the number of spots.

Once you’ve watched Miss Cooper’s video, cut the ladybirds out of your workbook and play the memory game with someone in your family. Try to find the pairs showing the same number of spots. It’s just like the Hungry Caterpillar pairs game I played in my video on Friday.

Next, have a go at making your own ladybird cards to play with. The blank ladybirds are on the next page of your workbook.

There is a Numberblocks episode linked to today’s maths. I’ll add the links below.
