Hot and Cold Writes
At the beginning of each unit of work, we ask the children to complete a Cold Write. We give them a familiar context to write about and ask them to complete the task independently. We then use this piece of writing to establish where children are on their writing journey and what the next teaching focus will be. At the end of a unit, we ask the children to complete a Hot Write. They complete a similar piece of writing showing us what they have learnt. By comparing the two writes, we can see the progress that has been made.
