Day 3 - Wednesday 4th June 2025
Today was a much more relaxed day here in Keswick with sunshine and showers throughout the day. We split into two smaller groups. The first group headed off to the pencil museum with the second going to the puzzle museum. We then alternated the activities after meeting up back at the centre to make and eat our lunch. After the two museums the two groups met at the sweet shop where the children spent some of their money, we walked back to base with some children having blue tongues and others eating ice cream in the rain.
In the puzzle museum there were a number of different illusions and puzzles including rooms where balls rolled uphill instead of down, a room and mirrors which changed people’s height and spinning puzzles where spots disappeared. Most children purchased something from the puzzle shop.
At the pencil museum we had a tour round learning how valuable graphite was and how pencils are made. We saw the world’s longest colouring pencil and a spy pencil that was invented during WWII, the pencil contained a map and a compass. The Derwent Pencil factory have since created a replica which can be bought in their shop.
When we returned to base we enjoyed some time playing board games, a number of staff and children (including Mrs Harding) spent along time trying to solve the T puzzle that Mrs Evans purchased from the puzzle museum, after a number of hours Miss Asquith successfully solved the puzzle - Now we just need to make an arrow out of the pieces - this has yet to be solved.
For dinner we had sausages, mash and beans followed by a yoghurt, this was enjoyed by everyone and most children opted to have seconds.
After dinner we played party games. Logan managed to get the hat, scarf and gloves and used a knife and fork to successfully open the chocolate bar and ate a piece or two, which then gave other children the opportunity to eat chocolate when they rolled a six. We also played four corners where children had to dance to the music before going to a corner - Alicja won this game with amazing dance moves, we had 2 games of pass the parcel with the lucky winners being Mason and Rhaine and then we had a quieter gam of 'would you rather'.
After party games it was time for hot chocolate and a biscuit and then everyone was ready for bed as we have a busy day in store tomorrow.
