DAY4

Day 4 - Thursday 5th June 202

An early start was needed today as we needed to get up, washed, dressed, make our packed lunch, have breakfast, tidy up and catch a boat all before 9.30am. As we boarded the boat the  rain started, there were clouds covering the tops of the mountains surrounding Derwentwater Lakes, but the water was so calm that the reflections of the trees surrounding the lake could be seen as it stopped raining and it became a little brighter. We got off the boat at Hawes End Jetty such a beautiful place, surrounded by trees, water and mountains.

We then began our walk for the day, climbing up the woodland side of Cat Bells, having lunch in the sunshine on the way and then heading down to the Grange Cafe, where we all enjoyed a well deserved ice cream.  The walk was enjoyed by everyone, the weather was kind to us with only a couple of showers as we climbed up above the tree tops.  Whilst walking a few passenger planes could be seen flying over the lake and we saw cows, sheep and lambs as well as enjoying the lovely views across the lake and mountains.

After leaving Grange Cafe we caught the open topped bus back to Keswick and then headed to the Fitz park where everyone had fun on the park equipment.

It was then time to go back to base and get washed and ready for our meal out at the Old Keswickian.  Prior to leaving for our meal out we had time to play some board games and to start watching The Lion King.

A delicious meal was enjoyed by everyone.  Members of the public and The Old Keswickian staff commented on how polite and respectful the children were. The children have been a real credit to Asquith Primary School this week their behaviour and manners have made all the staff very proud of them.  After the meal we walked back to base and saw a rainbow over the accommodation on Skiddaw Street as we arrived.

When we got back it was time to say goodbye to Mrs Harding.  It was then time to get ready for bed and watch the rest of The Lion King film whilst enjoying hot chocolate and a biscuit.  Mrs J then told everyone  the room inspection scores, they ranged from 51-76.  Demi, Estera, Alicja, Eliza & Viktoria were in the winning room. All children received a gift as the last group to go on a Keswick Residential.

ay 4 - Thursday 6th June 2024

Rise and shine! An early start was needed today as we had a boat to catch. This meant enjoying breakfast before making our lunch for the day and hurrying down to the launch for a ride on Derwentwater Lake. The weather was great, the lake was so calm that the reflections of the mountains could be seen on the water – much to Mrs Evans disappointment nobody got splashed due to the calmness of the water! Although she did catch a glimpse of some fighter jets flying through the valley.

We then began our walk for the day, setting off through the nearby woodlands towards to old railway line which has been transformed into a very accessible walking route. The path took us past the River Greta, over plenty of bridges and we caught several sightings of the A66. The walk was very scenic and lasted for the best part of 5km. We then stopped for lunch and an ice-cream at the coffee shop in Threlkeld.

Our walk then took us to Castlerigg Stone Circle. The sun was finally shining and we had great views all across the surrounding mountains. We then took the short walk back into Keswick to get ready for out meal out at the Old Keswickian.

An excellent meal was enjoyed by all and staff and members of the public were commenting on how polite and respectful the children were. This has been a running trend all week as we’ve been out and about and the children have really done Asquith proud. After the meal we walked to the park for the last time to use up any remaining energy the children had.

Back at base children were frantically packing before the awards for the tidiest rooms were announced. This has been hotly contested all week and never before have so many 10s been scored. Well done to Thomas and Joshua M. who took the prize for the boys and to Amelia, Lela, Lily and Charlotte who won for the girls.

A fantastic week has been had by everyone and the staff are so proud of all the children for how they have represented our school.
